Portraits, 2023

Pen on paper

The fake authenticity of oneself like the decorative still life paintings I always see. I’ve been told  I’m hard to decipher, or that I’m something of a lemon. Yellow, glossy, citrusy, something being  a bit off. The never-expiring beauty of fruits, contained and manipulated. The lemon yells out  in desperation, wanting to be real, to be authentic, but never quite fitting in with the rest of the  colours at the market stalls. The real pink lady apple, fresh and tarte scents fling their aura, the  fake grapes with a wine red tint that glosses over their rubbery skins, the real browning banana,  ready to get served as bread. The wooden bowl holds them all regardless
